Exploring Data Analytics for Accounting Professionals

This is an introductory course in analytics tailored for accounting professionals. Through hands-on work, students learn to ask the right business questions, extract and transform relevant data from an enterprise system, evaluate the integrity of the data, detect patterns and anomalies, apply data analytic techniques, and interpret and present results in order to make data-driven decisions.

AI and Ethics

The course provides an understanding of AI technologies, their potential benefits, and the ethical implications of their use. We will identify and articulate key legal principles that apply to AI technologies, and critically assess the ethical challenges. We will engage in debates that addresses the implications on public policy and individual rights, fostering a sense of responsibility as future leaders in technology.

Business Processes & Enterprise Systems

OIM

This course exposes students to how core business concepts are implemented in real-world organizational settings. Key business processes covered include procurement (materials management), fulfillment (sales), and production (manufacturing). The class meets in a computer lab and enables hands-on experience, with instructor guidance, to the ERP solution from SAP, the world's largest business software company. Using the system's core modules and data warehouse, students will gain insight into online transaction processing (OLTP) and online analytical processing (OLAP). A detailed case study with supporting data and structured in-class exercises will prepare students for the SAP graded assignments. Students may download the SAP web-based client to their personal computers.

Business Communication

This course is designed to help students meet the demand for effective writing and speaking skills in the professional workplace. Topics include rhetorical considerations involving audience and purpose, writing style and tone, organizational strategies, research skills, evidence-based writing, and page design, along with assignments in professional correspondence, report writing, and public speaking and visual aids. This course develops expertise in Finance, Technology, Innovation, leadership, and decision-making by focusing on real-world challenges in the field of FinTech. We will be actively discussing and learning how to analyze, identify, and manage/innovate FinTech across many functional disciplines, including Financial, Insurance, Banking, Trading, Information Technology, and Budgeting. Students are introduced to the Financial industry and the FinTech ecosystem. The course adopts a decision-maker and leadership perspective (business, operational, functional, and technical leadership) by emphasizing the relationships among financial data, their underlying economic events, risk profiles, challenges/opportunities, and the responses by all stakeholders in a business/corporation.

Business Strategy and Stock Analysis

SCH-MGMT

This course is designed to bring together concepts from Business Strategy and from traditional investments courses-in order to develop the thinking and techniques behind what is called "value investing." Unlike traditional investments curriculum, however, the emphasis here will be on individual company analysis and stock portfolio construction. That is, although understanding market dynamics remains important, we will mostly look at the capital markets from the vantage point of investors evaluating the investment prospects of one company at a time. In all, the course will develop concepts that help understand how and why stock prices fluctuate-or behave-so badly, and how careful individuals and companies ought to navigate through wildly unpredictable financial markets. In order to develop useful concepts and ways of thinking about the financial markets, therefore, this course will go beyond the textbook to practices, principles, and methods of investing as suggested by such value investing greats as Ben Graham, Phil Fisher, Warren Buffet, and Charlie Munger.
