Applicants' academic history, GMAT or GRE performance, motivation, aptitude for graduate-level work, and managerial experience are all taken into consideration. Candidates with at least two years of full-time work experience are preferred.
Application Materials
The official deadline for application to the M.S. program is February 1st of each year however, those who apply by December 15th (including test scores) will receive priority review for our first round of on-campus interviews (or Skype interview for international students). Applicants who interview on campus are typically notified of acceptance within a week after their interview. Individuals who have a BS in Sport Management from UMass have to wait at least two years after graduation to apply to the MBA/MS program and three years for the MS program.
Individuals applying to MS or MBA/MS program must submit the following (applicants applying for the MBA/MS dual degree program need only submit one application):
- Undergraduate GPA/Graduate GPA (if applicable): Confirmed by official transcripts. Although the Graduate Admissions Office sets a minimum GPA of 2.75, our program requires a minimum 3.0 GPA (unless the student is able to demonstrate extenuating circumstances).
- GMAT or GRE (the only exception is an applicant who has obtained a J.D. at an accredited U.S. or Canadian law school): Your confirmed score must be sent directly to the Graduate Admissions Office by ETS (scores are valid for 5 years). Note: GMAT is preferred. If you elect to take the GRE, the two GRE scores are converted to a GMAT equivalent.
- Personal statement: Candidates should use this opportunity to highlight personal traits, skills, and past athletic and work experiences that support their application to our program, as well as reflect a strong sense of career direction.
- At least two letters of recommendation (up to four are accepted): For applicants with professional work experience, letters from both professional and educational sources are recommended.
- Resume/CV
- Application fee
- For Non-English speaking students: TOEFL Scores/IELTS Scores -- Although the Graduate School accepts a TOEFL score of 80, our program strongly prefers a minimum TOEFL score of 100. You may also submit IELTS for which a minimum score of 6.0 is required, and a score of 7.5 or higher is strongly preferred.
