Arts administration requires a wide array of skills and a passion for the arts.
In Massachusetts alone there are more than 15,000 arts organizations, and nationally the arts are a trillion dollar industry. This concentration equips students with core management skills applied specifically to arts and cultural contexts such as museums, theaters, performing arts companies, and community arts programs. Students will learn valuable skills such as :
- strategic planning, budgeting, marketing, and organizational leadership
- applying for grants and other fundraising techniques
- planning innovative and exciting cultural programs
Our curriculum supports students looking to enter the field to stand out from the crowd, and those ready to take their careers to the next level by maximizing their potential with the latest skills and knowledge. Arts Extension Service alumni bring art and audiences together by ensuring that arts programs move from concept to completed projects that are funded, marketed, and experienced by their community members.
Students will learn from experienced professionals in the creative field to develop the most up-to-date skillsets that arts workers need today. Students can expect to build their network by connecting with:
- Americans for the Arts — the leading advocacy and professional development organization
- Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP)
- American Alliance of Museums (AAM)
- League of American Orchestras
- Theatre Communications Group (TCG)
