The Isenberg School of Management hosted the Northeast’s first Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge (MECC) April 6. While the event has taken place in other regions, it was never hosted in this area. Approximately 150 students from nine colleges and universities attended the event—held in the Berthiaume Business Innovation Hub—during which they got to compete in the ultimate test of Excel skills.
“To all the students who participated: Whether it was your first dive into Excel Esports or another chapter in your journey, thank you for bringing your skill, focus, and enthusiasm to the game,” said event organizer Nora Junaid, senior lecturer in Isenberg’s Department of Operations and Information Management. “This was an epic way to close out regionals."
Junaid, a senior lecturer in OIM, is also an Excel influencer and content creator whose Instagram account, @Excel.Ninja, reaches over 260,000 Excel enthusiasts. Her new book, which is filled with tips, tricks, and hacks, is a bestseller across four categories on Amazon.
In the Chase Career Center, students use Meta headsets and AI tools to practice networking, deliver presentations, and prepare for job interviews.
“One of the big benefits of AI is that you can practice over and over again,” says Holly Lawrence, assistant dean for the Office of Career Success. “You get a score with feedback, including strengths and areas for improvement. You can repeat the conversation or interview question set to build on your strengths as well as make improvements.”
The augmented and virtual reality headsets are used by several classes as well for instructional purposes, including 3D rendering of data.
Isenberg launched a new 5-course Artificial Intelligence in Business Undergraduate Certificate as well as a new 12-credit Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence.
The AI certificates join a growing portfolio of certificates that differentiate Isenberg undergraduate and graduate students on the job market. AI is also being actively incorporated across curricula for Isenberg students at all levels.
A new master’s degree offering joins Isenberg’s suite of 4+1 graduate programs and includes three career-focused concentrations: Project Management, Human Resources, and Arts Administration.
Faculty have incorporated the Kennedy Technology Sandbox into courses across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum—visualizing datasets in 3D, practicing interviews and negotiation in a dynamic VR environment, prototyping products, exploring wine regions through virtual tours, and more.
Students in the core Marketing 301 class taken by all Isenberg undergraduates complete Salesforce Trailhead certifications, design surveys in Qualtrics, and run new product launch marketing simulations.
These initiatives help make Isenberg students even more competitive at the rapidly growing and evolving intersections of technology, academics, and industry.
Students at Isenberg can explore careers in diverse industries through specialized programs including the Insurance Academy, the Sales Academy, and the Consulting Academy.
The programs work with alumni and corporate partners (including Arbella Insurance Group and ALKU, among others) to hold case competitions, seminars, and networking events where participants explore opportunities.
