Tuition and Aid

Each course requires materials such as textbooks, course packs, journals, and publications. The average cost for materials per course is $100.

Students may have their tuition billed to a third-party sponsor, such as their employer. Third parties cannot be billed directly if payment is conditional (contingent on grades, for example). Find more information here.

$507 one-time graduate entering fee

$500 non-refundable deposit is required when you confirm acceptance to the program and will be applied to the first semester bill

$60 registration fee per semester

$407 student health fee per semester

Students are welcome to pursue on-campus, part-time employment. Graduate assistantships may be available from other on-campus departments, but will not cover tuition and fees.

Students interested in federal financial aid must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Include federal school code 002221 under School Selection. UMass Amherst offers additional financial support information, including on how to apply for a Graduate PLUS loan, through the Financial Aid Office.

Massachusetts requires on-campus college students to have comprehensive health insurance. Students taking five or more credits are automatically enrolled in the individual SHBP each semester and charged on the semester's tuition bill. If you plan to use private health insurance instead of the SHBP, you must waive the SHBP by the add/drop deadline. The waivable SHBP is currently $1,597 per semester.
