Ahnaf Shahriar Hoque '25, who came to Isenberg as an international student from Bangladesh, is the current co-president of the accounting honors society Beta Alpha Psi. Hoque, an accounting major, plans to pursue a CPA license and an MBA post-graduation.

What made you decide to major in accounting?

My father is a chartered accountant, and growing up I have seen him work his way up the corporate ladder, doing work that seemed interesting to me. Additionally, I was never really interested in science or any other academic areas—and I always dreamed of working within the financial industry and rising to the ranks of becoming a MD or a CFO. Accounting appears to be the route to help me achieve that goal.

What has been your favorite class or experience at Isenberg so far?

Honestly, I loved taking OIM 350. Even though it is outside the requirements of my major, I think it taught me valuable skills that are very relevant in any industry today. My favorite experiences would be meeting new like-minded people at Isenberg either through my classes or extracurriculars.

What clubs and extracurriculars do you participate in?

I am currently the co-president of Beta Alpha Psi, which is the accounting honors society on campus. I recently joined 180 Degrees Consulting as a junior analyst. I also work on campus as a resident assistant and as a teaching assistant for Marketing 301.

Have you had any jobs or internships during college?

During the summer of my first year, I interned with a private equity firm called Bright Harbor Advisors. During the summer of sophomore year, I worked for Deloitte as a tax consulting intern.

If you could go back and give your first-year self some advice, what would you tell them?

If you believe in yourself and put your mind into achieving something, nobody/nothing will be able to stop you.

Do you have a mentor from the Isenberg community who has helped shape your experience?

I have an amazing community of friends who push me to do better and better.

What are you planning after graduation?

After graduation, I want to work for a Big Four accounting firm or a banking institution. I plan to get my CPA license as well and after working in the industry for a couple of years, I want to pursue an MBA.
