Maya Mudambi

Dr. Mudambi holds a BA in Biology, a Master's in Computer & Information Technology from the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD in Information Systems from the University of Maryland, College Park. Their research sits at the intersection of online misinformation, user-generated content platforms, streaming media, and machine learning. Current work examines how misinformation spreads across digital platforms and how the economics of streaming media shape consumer behavior. This research carries direct relevance for industry and policy, informing debates on content moderation practices as well as pricing and licensing structures for online streaming services. A recipient of a 2026 UMass Faculty Research Grant, Dr. Mudambi maintains an active research pipeline with work targeted at premier journals in the field, bridging computational methods and social science to address pressing questions about how information and media circulate in the digital economy.
