Ahmed Ghoniem
Professor
Ahmed Ghoniem is a Professor of Operations Management at the Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts Amherst. He earned an M.Sc. in Production and Logistics Operations Management from Ecole des Mines de Nantes, France (2002) and an M.Sc. (2003) and a Ph.D. (2007) in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech, USA. He has been awarded over 1.5 million dollars in research grants for research projects pertaining to airport operations management; retail pricing and inventory management; infrastructure and logistics planning for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. His work focuses on developing novel optimization models and effective solution methodologies for challenging problems that arise in operations management with particular interest in retail AI & space analytics, logistics planning, and last-mile delivery with emerging technologies. He is serving as an Associate Editor for such journals as Journal of the Operational Research Society and OMEGA - The International Journal of Management Science. His publications have appeared in such journals as Annals of Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, IIE Transactions, INFORMS Journal on Computing, International Journal of Production Economics, Journal of Global Optimization, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Networks, and Operations Research. Professor Ghoniem has co-edited a book entitled “Retail Space Analytics” on seminal works in the field of store-wide shelf space allocation, with in-store traffic modeling and layout considerations.
