Program: Undergraduate On-Campus
Majors: Accounting and Sport Management

When Ross McNamara ’15 joins the accounting firm McGladrey in Boston after graduation, he will arrive with internship experiences that differentiate him from most other entry-level auditors. A dual accounting and sport management major with a minor in economics, Ross held a marketing internship with ESPN Boston from September 2012 through April 2014. In that role he participated in promotional events at Gillette Stadium during New England Patriots and UMass Amherst football games. He also ran promotional events for ESPN back at UMass. Before ESPN, he held a marketing and communications summer internship with the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, a Leominster-based collegiate baseball team in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.

Ross has also worked since June 2013 as a service and sales representative with IC Federal Credit Union in Fitchburg. In that role he has opened accounts, issued debit cards, and solved problems for the credit union’s members. And he has been a financial consultant for an official UMass student business, where he has done budgeting and bookkeeping, reconciled finances, and made financial presentations to stakeholders.

“As a freshman at Isenberg, I immediately became involved in multiple clubs,” Ross recalls. Taking on leadership activities early on (he eventually became marketing director of Isenberg’s Association for Diversity in Sport), “gave me the skill set to walk into an organization and make a difference after just one year of college,” he emphasizes. “That helped me set up further opportunities at Isenberg. As an auditor, I’ll be working in teams. My teamwork experience in the classroom and in clubs should help me to succeed professionally.”
