On a two-day visit to Isenberg in September, David Fubini '76 (Marketing) and David O'Leary '81 MBA offered strategic advice to the school's MBA program. Fubini, a Director with McKinsey & Company, and O'Leary, former Chief Administrative Officer with State Street Corporation, met with MBA faculty, administrators, and students.
The two alumni also gave hundreds of freshmen in the Dean's Professional Development Seminar for first-year Isenberg students their take on networking, interviewing, teamwork, mentorships, and "hard" versus "soft" business skills.
"You're only as good as the group around you," emphasized Fubini in his advocacy of teamwork. "Being prepared"--understanding a company's business objectives and culture--"is a key to success in job interviews," noted O'Leary. "I take for granted that you have all the basic 'hard' [business] skills," he continued. "I'm more interested in personality and your fit with the organization." "Start networking now," urged Fubini. "Start with the group in this room. It's likely that some of you will get jobs from one another. "Down the road, you'll not only be a source of jobs but of capital as well."
