This summer I am interning at Digital Federal Credit Union as an Accounting and Finance Intern. I have been updating some general ledgers and reconciliations daily, creating documents to be used for banking analysis, working on a variety of research projects relevant to the credit unions and more specifically DCU, and attending webinars to expand my knowledge in the industry.
HOW DID YOU FIND THIS OPPORTUNITY?
I found this opportunity through networking. A friend of mine has a relative at the company and she encouraged me to apply to the position.
WHAT HAS YOUR EXPERINCE BEEN LIKE AND WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED?
My experience has been very gratifying as I am able to work in a field I am so passionate about. Through the duration of my internship I have been able to meet so many people who have given me insight on the industry and have taught me so much on how I can succeed. On a more technical note I have learned so much Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, etc.) through my work with data analysis.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER STUDENTS?
Some advice I have for other students: Internships don't happen without a lot of time and hard work, so do your research and network any way you can. If one of your classmates is doing more than you, you're not going to get the job, they are.
