Who are you working for and what are you doing?

I am interning for TJX as a Merchandising Allocation Intern in Planning.

How did you find this opportunity?

I found this opportunity through the Isenberg Experience page.

What has your experience been like and what have you learned?

My experience has been amazing. I went through a few weeks of training to learn the basic systems that TJX utilizes, then I became full time on the job. The first few days I was shadowing a Senior Analyst, but by the end of my first full-time week my team let me start shipping and allocating goods on my own. Every day I go into work excited to see how my department’s business did the previous day and week, and I love tracking that progress. I track Week-to-Date shipping, create weekly and daily strategy, help decide what products we will hold for a later date, do specific analysis projects for my managers, and act as a liaison between the distribution centers and TJX. I also get to attend vendor visits, plan for next quarter’s products and estimated financial figures, go to style-outs to see the decision process behind choosing specific product design, and shop competition stores. Each day brings new challenge and never gets boring!

What advice do you have for other students?

My advice for other students would be to always keep pursuing your dream job or internship. Each job or intern position you have helps to build your experience in your resume, which is the main component recruiters are looking for, and that will help you get to that dream position. I have had other internships and jobs before TJX, none of them as enjoyable as this experience, but all taught me valuable skills that I still utilize in my current position and definitely helped me get here. You have to appreciate the journey to get to that goal destination.
