WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

This summer I've had the unique opportunity to intern with the Risk Management team at Loomis Sayles and Company.

HOW DID YOU FIND THIS OPPORTUNITY?

Interning previously last year with Loomis' Commodity Long Short team in their Alpha Strategies group, I took all the chances offered during the internship to learn from the employee's at Loomis, while drawing on the breadth of knowledge from classes and extra-curricular's offered at Isenberg, in order to put my best foot forward to whatever task I was assigned. I would attribute focus and expression of interest in projects to being accepted back for the summer of 2017.

WHAT HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE BEEN LIKE AND WHAT HAVE YOU LEAREND?

In short, I have learned a breadth of skills. These include hands on use Bloomberg API in excel for a wide range of projects ranging from auditing trade orders to analyzing commodity fundamentals and building rudimentary trade algo's. The Summer Internship Program at Loomis Sayles has also led me to open doors to programs such as R and Matlab.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER STUDENTS?

Clubs, Clubs, Clubs. MEF, MFIF, and MAIF along with the Investment Club, Finance Society and long list of clubs ranging from Women in Business to Jewish Leaders in Business all offer invaluable experiences. Personally from freshmen year I was driven by Dean Fuller and his encouragement to get 4-5 internships if you could by the end of your Undergrad experience. I quickly rushed to the Investment Club where I was welcomed to the board as marketing manager to Junior Derivatives Analyst, Fund Administrator, then Vice President at the Minuteman Alternative Investment Fund. I thank the great network of resources at Chase Career and throughout UMass and Isenberg for encouragement, education and opportunities, with special thanks to Sanjay Nawalkha, Mila Sherman, and Kim Figueroa
