The HTM 387 Information Technology and Social Media for Hospitality Industry class worked with local Bed and Breakfast (B&B) to promote the accommodations on social media. The local B &B’s are Amherst Inn and Allen House, both owned by Alan and Ann King of Amherst. Students were responsible for one social media platform such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok. Each account was created and managed by the students with relevant information regarding the accommodations. The posts included information about COVID-19 regulations and how the B&Bs are handling the safety and hygiene concerns of the guests as well as information and events about Amherst.  Students had the chance to have first-hand experience at a real-world social media marketing management and learn social media metrics to measure their success.  The hospitality and tourism management department’s collaboration with local businesses also strengthens the community bond in Amherst.
