Janet S. Fink, Chair & Professor, Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management is a consummate academician, receiving critical acclaim for her research, teaching, and service.

Her scholarship has exposed the flaws in marketing of women athletes and has contributed to a new era where female players are celebrated in advertisements for their athleticism rather than beauty.

Her scholarship is well established in sport management journals. Most recently, she had three papers accepted into the field’s top journals, Journal of Sport Management and The Sport Management Review. In total, she has published 56 refereed journal articles, co-written a book and six book chapters, and presented numerous papers in the United States and Canada. The North American Society for Sport Management, the sport management’s primary academic body, honored Fink in 2011 when she was elected its president. The election was the culmination of years of outstanding scholarship, research, and leadership as well as advancing student growth and development and service.

A UMass Amherst faculty member since 2013, Fink’s accomplishments in teaching and administration are equally as impressive, earning her several awards throughout her career. She coordinates the sport management doctoral program and finds time to challenge and mentor her students.

Other Significant Honors: Research Fellow, North American Society of Sport Management, 2006; Invited Member, National Collegiate Athletic Association Research Consortium, 2011-2013.
