Shelly Duncan '92, a partner in Deloitte's Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice, was principal honoree at Isenberg's Annual Accounting Banquet on April 17. Duncan received the department's Accounting Alumni Award, its alumnus of the year honor. A second alumnus, Jason Janoff '93, accepted an award for his commitment to diversity initiatives at Isenberg.  Catherine Lowry '96, 01' MBA, a senior lecturer in the department, was honored with the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants' Outstanding Educator of the Year Award. And 60 students received scholarships and other accolades for academic excellence and community service.

"I am proud to work in a profession known for its flexibility toward women with families-a profession that offers women and men the same opportunities to contribute," emphasized Duncan, who lives in Medfield with her husband and their six children. For over 20 years Duncan has advised companies on issues involving software revenue recognition, complex equity instruments, IPOs, mergers and acquisitions, and restructurings.

At Deloitte, the Isenberg alumna works with large multinational clients in the technology and consumer products industries and is a member of the firm's International Financial Reporting Standards team. She leads the software sector in the Deloitte's New England Technology practice and works with the firm's national office to ensure that auditors maintain independence in their relations with clients.

Lowry's prestigious honor celebrated her extraordinary performance in several key roles. She is principal lecturer and coordinator for Isenberg's introductory accounting course, which serves 500 students per semester. As her department's chief liaison with the accounting profession, she facilitates professional development and events that bridge students, accounting alumni, and recruiters. That dovetails with her role as advisor to Isenberg's student chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, which has received national recognition for its community service and activities with the accounting profession.

Two Isenberg accounting alumni--John Micalizzi '94 and David Clarkson '73--and the MSCPA's Barbara Iannoni presented Lowry with the award. She will be honored again at the society's annual awards ceremony on May 16th in Boston.
