We’re thrilled to invite your students to join the Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge (MECC) regional competition, which will be held at UMass Amherst on April 6th – the most exciting Excel Esports competition of the year!

This in-person event held from 9.30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. is a can’t-miss opportunity for students to demonstrate their Excel skills and compete at the highest level across Junior Varsity and Varsity challenges!

The Regional Competition will have:

  • The competition: Four 30-minute cases for the students to compete, covering various Excel skills like speed, lookups, data referencing and analysis, formatting, and data visualization.
  • Junior Varsity and Varsity Levels: The competition will have two difficulty levels; Junior Varsity for beginners, and Varsity for the more advanced Excel athletes.
  • Speakers: We bring top voices in the Excel community to share experiences and knowledge with students.
  • Networking: Have your students meet their peers beyond your campus and foster long lasting connections!

Training and Preparations

MECC provides a host of tutorials here. They are designed to assist you in preparing for competing. Each tutorial offers at least one video solution to help you overcome any obstacles you encounter.

We’ll be holding 3 Training Sessions at UMass Isenberg to make sure you are ready to compete:

· Wednesday, March 26th from 4- 6 pm in G8 or on Zoom.

· Friday, March 28th from 4-6 pm in G23 or on Zoom

· Friday, April 4th from 4-6 pm in G23 or on Zoom

Divisions

Varsity and Junior Varsity divisions will accommodate different levels of skill and expertise. Students may choose the division within which they compete. The Junior Varsity division will use cases that resemble the Varsity cases, but with less complexity.

Scoring

Students will complete all cases as individuals. Each case will have an individual winner. We will also declare an overall individual winner.

Overall team scoring will be based on the scores of the top three individuals. See the MECC website for complete rules.
