Innovation fuels business information technology. In that spirit, Operations and Information Management Lecturer Nora Junaid has created a mobile app for Isenberg students in her course, Introduction to Business Information Systems. Available from the iTunes App Store and Google Play, the new app—Nora’s Corner—instantly connects students with course material and news about assignments and exam deadlines. It conveys information about labs and course updates, and—emphasizing interactivity—its Just Ask Nora feature allows users to ask specific questions and receive advice on course-related queries.

Beyond the course, Nora’s Corner conveys information about other Isenberg OIM offerings, the school’s OIM club, and additional resources for students. The app also chronicles exciting news and developments in the OM/IM field by linking to Junaid's tech blog, another effort to keep students in the know about the latest happenings in the industry.

Given the discipline’s dynamism, classroom technology itself should follow suit, underscores Junaid. That’s especially timely, she adds, because every Isenberg undergrad must take Introduction to Business Information Systems.

“If the mission is to impart the importance of integrating technology with business processes to generate the best of all possible outcomes, then it’s imperative to reflect that within the classroom,” Junaid explains. “This application exemplifies that mission and makes the learning process more efficient and more closely aligned to the world students are entering once they leave the classroom. Instead of hearing me talk about the effects tech can have on efficiency, they can see for themselves.”

With more than 400 users signed up during the first month of its launching, Nora’s Corner is headed for lots of cyber mileage.
