Welcome back Isenberg students! And welcome to a milestone year of extraordinary excitement and importance for this wonderful institution.

In January the iconic Business Innovation Hub will open for business (although the “official” ribbon cutting will be in April … when it’s warmer!). This is a significant moment in Isenberg’s 69-year history. The past decade was period of exceptional transition for the school.  We achieved—and the world noticed and recognized—remarkable gains in quality, student outcomes, and faculty thought-leadership. In many ways, the iconic Business Innovation Hub is a reflection of all that we have become as an institution.  At the same time, it stands as a guidepost for where we are headed.

When I first met with the building’s world-renowned architects I said, “This could be the most beautiful building in the world, but if it doesn’t work for our students, it will fail.” Without question, the Business Innovation Hub is a success on both counts, combining a bold visual identity with brilliantly conceived functionality. Our students will thrive in spacious technologically enabled classrooms—traditional and online—and energizing collaboration spaces. Expanded resources for career services, interviewing, and academic advising will ensure that our students move into the world with the skills and poise needed to make a lasting impact wherever their careers take them.

Our new building will also make it easier for these driven students to connect with our growing community of faculty and staff. Every day our exceptional staff work tirelessly on behalf of our students in areas spanning student support, advising, and administrative services. And new members of our increasingly accomplished faculty join a community of multi-dimensional scholar-educators who are exceptional in research, deeply engaged in the student experience, and committed to building Isenberg’s diverse community and culture.

Last, but certainly not least, our new space encourages us to think boldly about how we go about our work and challenges us to ensure that the school stands as a model of the kind of organization we want our students to lead.  This entails a commitment to inclusion in all we do. In today’s world, successful leaders are those who access, leverage, and benefit from the contributions of all members of the organization, and in the halls, common spaces, and courtyard of the new building we will find opportunities to build a dignified and respectful community.

As your interim dean, I am looking forward to the year ahead …  it will be a memorable time of transition, as the school prepares to embark on the next stage of its remarkable journey. It is truly an honor and a privilege to lead this exceptional institution at this moment in time, and I’m energized by the excitement I feel when I walk the halls with our students, meet with our faculty and staff, and connect with our alumni.  We are indeed poised for more great things.  Onward!
