“It’s okay, you’re only a Freshman. You don’t need an internship,” they say. WRONG we say! Freshman internships DO matter, they DO set you apart, and they DO make a difference in how you are looked at for future internships. Here’s why:

  1. Having an internship freshman year makes you stand out. It shows that you are determined and that you have the drive to succeed. Employers will see that you really want to do well in your future career because you’re starting early.
  2. It looks GREAT on a resume. Coming out of high school, most students don’t have real internship or industry experiences to bring with them. Even coming out of freshman year most students don’t have real industry experiences. That’s why you should be the outlier! You’ll have skills and a new employment experience that you can bring to your resume.
  3. What are better than real experiences? Learning in the classroom is a fantastic foundation, but real life experiences are what are really going to help you with figuring out what you like. Having a real experience entering sophomore year is valuable.

It’s not too early to start looking! Plenty of companies are looking for winter interns, and several summer internships are already posted on Isenberg Experience and UMass Experience.
