Online Undergraduate Certificates

Yes, with the following restrictions;

• Only up to 2 courses can be used to meet both the certificate and your major requirements.
• Only up to 2 courses may be taken on campus on a space available basis, Isenberg majors have priority.
• All certificate classes must be taken at UMass Amherst, and for a grade (no pass/fail accepted) with a C or better final grade. Students transferring to UMass Amherst with certificate courses should contact us for possible exceptions.
• The online courses are not part of your on-campus tuition and must be paid for separately as you take them. Contact Financial Aid to inquire about possible benefits.  
• Business Minors are not eligible for the Business Studies Certificate.
• The certificate must be completed before you graduate.

Certificate students are accepted on a rolling basis and directed towards the next applicable semester. Fall generally starts early September, spring late January and summer late May.

Yes, tuition is the same for online courses regardless of residency.

Current UMass students should reach out to the financial aid office regarding options to pursue online courses. 

Non-degree-seeking students are generally not eligible for financial aid. Please visit http://www.umass.edu/umfa/non-degree for more information. 

UMass Amherst students who transfer into UMass Amherst with equitable transfer credit can fulfill up to two certificate requirements.

Non-degree students must complete all of the certificate courses through the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

If you are accepted into a UMass Amherst bachelor’s degree program you may use the certificate courses towards your completion plan.

Yes, classes must be taken for a grade and require a minimum grade of a C or higher. An overall GPA of a 2.0 is required with no more than one course below 2.0.

You will be billed directly by the UMass Amherst Bursar’s office. Billing information will be sent to your UMass email.
