Isenberg Accounting Students Excel in Case Competition
October 24, 2013
Challenge Inc., a team of five Isenberg accounting students, will represent the school as a potential national finalist in PricewaterhouseCoopers' (PwC) 2013 Accounting Case Competition. In the competition's first round on October 10, the judges--all Isenberg alumni with PwC*--chose Challenge Inc. for its performance over ten other Isenberg teams (53 Isenberg students in all participated). The case asked students to evaluate the long-term financial sustainability of a company's proposed biodiesel facility. "The winning presentation was polished and nuanced; it examined less-than-obvious complexities," observed the team's faculty mentor, Isenberg's associate accounting chair, William Brown.
The team received $1,000 for its efforts; more significant, a national panel will evaluate Challenge Inc.'s performance against the case work of 43 other school-winning teams to select four national finalists. They and a fifth finalist, chosen by voters via nationwide social media, will compete head-to-head next January in New York City.
Challenge Inc.'s team members are Byron Georgellis, Brian Hall, Jacquelyn Keville, and Bennett Evans. Isenberg's second place team, Accrual World, also received $1,000 from PwC.
