U.S.A. Gymnastics announced in February 2019 that Li Li Leung would be its new president and CEO. Leung, a former gymnast (she competed in the Junior Pan-Am Games and for the University of Michigan in the N.C.A.A. Championships) and alumna of Isenberg's Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management has spent the past 4 years as VP of Global Partnerships for the NBA.

On August 29, at the UMass Club high above Boston Common, David O’Leary ’81 MBA convened the 2018 MBA Keys to Success panel discussion after drinks and dinner. The event was the celebratory end of a three-day Boot Camp for first-year MBA candidates, in which the students learned career-building skills while getting to know each other. Along with several supportive second-years, alumni, and faculty, the first-years engaged with moderator David and the panelists on subjects ranging from job searching and interviews to Ford’s recent decision to stop manufacturing almost all of their sedans.
Thom Lytle ’07 MBA, Senior Director of Social Business and Digital Marketing with Dell, spoke to Isenberg’s full-time MBA students to share his insights on the importance of aligning social media practices with a company's marketing strategy.
Linda Enghagen was appointed Isenberg’s Associate Dean of Graduate and Professional Programs on January 1, 2018. She will now lead Isenberg’s dynamic Online/Part-Time MBA program, the school’s full-time MBA program, and a new Master of Science in Business & Analytics program. Her predecessor, John D. Wells, is now UMass Amherst’s Senior Vice Provost for Online Education.
“It isn’t working hard that gets you recognized. It’s working smart,” emphasized Victoria Vega ’88, keynote speaker at the 5th annual Women of Isenberg Annual Conference. Vega’s remarks formed the basis of a prevailing theme throughout the day-long conference, which stressed a changing landscape for women in the workplace and the importance of finding one’s own way even in challenging circumstances.
Hosted by the Berthiaume Center for Entrepreneurship, the four-part Innovation Challenge continued with The Semifinal on Wednesday, February 28. In front of a panel of four judges, 12 student-led teams gave five-minute pitches describing their ventures and participated in a 10-minute Q&A session. The judges selected seven teams to advance to Innovation Challenge
Road-tested advice for women contemplating financial careers and networking opportunities with their peers and Boston area employers were highlights at Isenberg’s first Women in Finance Luncheon. Presented by State Street and coordinated by Isenberg’s MBA program and the school’s (undergraduate) Women in Business student group, the event at the UMass Club in downtown Boston attracted 51 students from Isenberg and five other area universities: Boston College, Brandeis, Northeastern, Suffolk, and Worcester Polytech.
Hosted by the Berthiaume Center for Entrepreneurship, the four-part Innovation Challenged kicked off with The Minute Pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 25. In front of an audience of nearly 200 students, faculty, staff and supporters, 22 teams gave 60-second pitches of their venture idea. With assistance from the sponsors, EY and Bud Robertson (Isenberg ’72), $2,500 is prize money was awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams and the audience choice selection.

In August, Professor Bradley Bennett began a prestigious three-month residency with KPMG’s James Marwick Professor in Residence Program. Based at KPMG’s Department of Professional Practice in Manhattan, Bennett is working with the firm’s Audit Innovation Group.
Nearly 1,000 accounting professors from 200 colleges and universities ranked Isenberg’s Department of Accounting 3rd in the Northeast and 25th in the Nation in the Public Accounting Report’s annual roster of the top 50 undergraduate accounting and master’s degree programs.
Deftly moderated by David O’Leary ’81 MBA, the panel discussion on August 30 at the elegant UMass Club on Beacon Hill in Boston was the culminating event at the annual David C. O’Leary MBA Orientation Program.* The three-day retreat for Isenberg’s 42 first-year full-time MBA students offered workshops and discussions devoted to team building, personality management, improvisatory skills, behavioral interviewing, and other career building skills. The immersive gatherings also included three days of social and networking opportunities with fellow MBA students and Isenberg alumni.
On May 25, three UMass Amherst-based startups—all recipients of advice and technical assistance from Isenberg School of Management MBA Fellows working through the Berthiaume Center for Entrepreneurship—were among 12 monetary award recipients/graduates of the Valley Venture Mentors (VVM) Accelerator program in Springfield.
ElectroPure, a student team and developer of a water treatment/purification device for homes, schools, and other small-scale water systems, took first-place honors in the finals of the 2017 Innovation Challenge business plan competition on April 6th.
Isenberg’s Full-time MBA program has soared eighteen places from 75th to 57th in U.S. News’ just-released annual ranking of MBA programs. Isenberg also moved up three places from 16th to 13th in U.S. News’ ranking of Part-time MBA programs.
In February, 350 students, alumni, faculty, and staff attended the fourth annual Women of Isenberg conference, which brings together women from all career levels to talk about their unique experiences and challenges as women in business.
