It was after 2:00 in the morning in a conference room in downtown Boston, a few months before the NFL season was set to kick off. Ed Shirley ‘78 was holed up in a conference room with Jonathan Kraft, son of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and two teams of intractable lawyers.
Isenberg's Beta Alpha Psi accounting honor society chapter, along with some of its students and advisor Cathy Lowry, has once again been honored for their work within the group in professional, leadership, and service activities.
“No matter where we go, no matter what we do, we carry the Isenberg brand with us,” Senior Class Speaker Stephanie Berenson ’16 told an audience of over 4000—graduating seniors, their families, and Isenberg faculty and staff—at Isenberg’s Senior Celebration at the Mullins Center on May 7. “We are part of each other. We are each other’s network, and one day, as graduates, we will be a resource for Isenberg students just as alumni have been for us,” emphasized the dual marketing/journalism major.

AACSB International Extends Global Business or Accounting Accreditation For More Than Sixty Schools, Across Eleven Countries. Achieving accreditation is a process of rigorous internal review, engagement with an AACSB assigned mentor, and peer review.
Isenberg is the highest ranking public undergraduate business school in the Northeast, according to Bloomberg Businessweek’s 2016 Undergraduate Business School Rankings. Climbing three places since the 2014 ranking, Isenberg now ranks 11th among public undergraduate business school programs in the United States. The new rankings clearly illustrate Isenberg’s growing national stature, with the school moving up 45 spots among private and public business schools since 2010.

The third annual Women of Isenberg Conference took place on February 28th in the UMass Amherst Campus Center. Put on by student organization Isenberg Women in Business, the event attracted 310 attendees and offered a full day of speakers, panel discussions, and networking
Four Isenberg finance professors who recently attended a showing of “The Big Short” applauded the movie for its accurate portrayal of the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis and for its clear explanation of complex financial concepts. In a discussion following the movie, several of the professors expressed approval for regulations that focus on interrelationships among different segments of the financial system.

The campus-wide Innovation Challenge business plan competition's new seed pitch component is propelling student teams, through mentoring, workshops, and targeted financial seeding. “We introduced the new phase to elevate and accelerate the larger event’s already high level of competition," notes Isenberg professor William Wooldridge, executive director of Isenberg's Berthiaume Center for Entrepreneurship, which coordinates the Challenge.
Five alumni set the record straight in a panel discussion about careers in sales. In technology industries, sales have evolved to a partnership with clients that calls for strong listening and problem-solving skills. "They turn to us as a trusted advisor," said one of the panelists.

Finance grad John McMullen '81 has placed retirement on hold to serve as CFO of one of America's iconic companies, Eastman Kodak. McMullen is working with the the company's technology developer to leverage its still robust technology prowess. He is also responsible for corporate development, controlling costs, procurement, and Kodak's substantial real estate portfolio.
In August, accounting professor Bradley Bennett and a coauthor were honored by the American Accounting Association with the 2015 AAA/Deloitte Wildman Medal for a paper that made "the most significant contribution to the practice of public accountancy." The paper explored the implications of mismatches in age, knowledge, and experience between staff-level auditors and the more experienced managers at clients with whom those auditors interact.
Thirty students in the Isenberg course, Ubuntu & Business in South Africa, visited Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, and Soweto during a three-week class trip to South Africa in May. The students explored business and cultural venues and participated in several community service projects during their stay.
Isenberg's Berthiaume Center for Entrepreneurship has received a gift of $400,000 from Ernst & Young and Isenberg alumni at the firm. In addition, an in-kind gift from EY has given Isenberg Gold Sponsor status in the firm's regional EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
Two days of Isenberg graduation events celebrated the achievements and grit of 1,230 graduating seniors, master’s, and Ph.D. recipients. Addresses by keynote speakers recounted students’ accomplishments at Isenberg and looked ahead to their promising careers and continued engagement with the school.

Scores of Isenberg students were honored with substantial scholarship assistance at the annual Isenberg Scholarship Celebration, on April 21. The principal speakers—Vinnie Daboul ’87 and Marty Boyle ’15—praised Isenberg as an engine of opportunity and upward mobility. They urged alumni and students to support the school financially and through personal engagement.
“In my field, little things can lead to big things,” remarks forensic accounting specialist Lynda Schwartz ’86. A forensic accounting practitioner since the early 1990s, Lynda will teach a two-day colloquium on the subject on July 14-15 in Isenberg’s M.S. in Accounting (MSA) program.

Todd Bari '94, an assurance partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Boston office, will be honored as Alumnus of the Year at Isenberg's Annual Accounting Awards Banquet on April 16th. Todd, who helps lead the PWC Boston office's Financial Services Assurance practice, will be the event's keynote speaker.
