BVMS serves all members of the UMass Amherst Community (faculty, students, staff, and alumni) who have ideas and want to start new businesses.
Berthiaume Venture Mentoring Service (BVMS) provides mentors to students, faculty, staff and alumni of UMass-Amherst who seek support in launching and growing their business venture. Our mentors include serial entrepreneurs, domain experts, financiers and others with entrepreneurial experience. Key highlights of BVMS are as follows:
We match mentors and mentees based on the needs of the entrepreneur/venture and the mentor’s expertise. We also look to provide mentees with multiple mentors in order to provide a variety of points of view.
There is no cost for our mentoring services. Mentors may not be compensated by or take equity in any venture they are advising and are required to maintain confidentiality. Our mentors participate because they find it interesting and exciting to work with entrepreneurs and their ventures.
The mentor/mentee relationship may continue throughout the life cycle of the venture – from startup, early financing, product commercialization, scaling and onward until exit.
Once the mentor team is established, mentoring sessions are held at times mutually convenient for the mentors and mentees. Each mentee keeps us apprised of the mentoring activities by completing a short report each calendar quarter.
The mentoring team may evolve over time based on the needs of the venture.
All mentor/mentee relationships are voluntary and may be terminated by any participant at any time.
