We are thrilled to announce the upcoming talk in our Spring 2025 Speaker Series, "Nature-based Solutions: Cost-effectiveness and Financial Innovation," organized by the UMass Amherst Student Chapter of INFORMS and its Faculty Advisor, Professor Anna Nagurney.
Dr. Marta Vicarelli is an Assistant Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her research focuses on: (i) the risks and the socio-economic impacts of climate variability and climate change; (ii) the economics of Nature-based Solutions for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation; (iii) climate resilience and green-recovery strategies; and (iv) renewable energy policy. She is contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report, Working Group II, on impacts, adaptation and vulnerability. Past appointments include: research fellowships at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Institute for Space Studies, the Harvard University’s Center for International Development and theYale University Climate and Energy Institute. She is currently a research associate at the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change and University Ca’ Foscari, Venice, Italy. Vicarelli holds a PhD in Sustainable Development from Columbia University.
