Isenberg Students to Celebrate National Award

November 3, 2011

UMass Chapter of INFORMS

Isenberg and other students from the UMass Amherst chapter of INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) will attend their parent organization's annual meeting (November 13-16) in Charlotte, North Carolina to receive a Magna cum Laude Award on behalf of their chapter. It's the fifth year running that the chapter has been so honored. According to the group's faculty advisor John F. Smith Professor of Operations Management Anna Nagurney, the award recognizes the group's cutting-edge speaker series and its creative outreach through social networking sites. Last Spring, the chapter also helped plan the first Northeast Regional INFORMS Conference, which took place on the UMass Amherst campus in May.

The chapter encourages interest in operations research and the management sciences, including their use in addressing challenges for business and society.  Members of the chapter are undergraduate and graduate students from various schools and departments on campus, including Isenberg and the College of Engineering.
