Elmont Award Dinner Honors Hospitality Alumni, Supports Scholarships

Paul Carbone \'88Paul Carbone \'88The Isenberg Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management (HTM)'s annual Stephen Elmont Award Dinner on April 23 at the Boston Harbor Hotel recognized leaders in the hospitality industry and raised more than $100,000 toward student scholarships. This year's winner of the prestigious Elmont Award was Paul Carbone '88, Chief Financial Officer of Dunkin' Brands. In his remarks, Carbone underscored the importance of leadership in hospitality management, praising Isenberg HTM students as future industry leaders. The HTM alumnus noted that he had seen those skills first hand during a visit to campus that included participation in an undergraduate leadership class and conversations with HTM students.


More than 200 guests, including leaders and supporters of the hospitality industry, attended the gala event. Other prominent speakers included HTM graduates Rick Kelleher '73, CEO of Pyramid Hotel Group, and master of ceremonies Rob McCarthy '78, President and CEO of Chartwell Hotel Group. Isenberg's dean Mark Fuller also spoke to the gathering.  


Stephen E. Elmont '64 HTM was a legendary Boston restaurateur and former chairman of the National Restaurant Association. The founder of Creative Gourmet, one of New England's largest catering companies, Elmont returned periodically to UMass Amherst to share industry and entrepreneurial insights with HTM students. The award in his name is given annually to the most outstanding leaders in the hospitality industry.
