The Isenberg School of Management mourns the passing of Eugene M. Isenberg '50, '00H who died on March 16, 2014. Gene was the school's greatest benefactor and a graduate when it awarded both economics (Gene's major with a concentration in business) and business degrees. For 25 years, Gene was chairman and CEO of Nabors Industries, a world leader in gas and petroleum drilling.
Two high-profile visitors in March to Professor Anna Nagurney's innovative course, Humanitarian Logistics and Healthcare, were UMass Amherst family and sports medicine physician Pierre Rouzier and Springfield Channel 40 ABC/Fox6 news anchor Dave Madsen. This news story focuses on Dr. Rouzier's relief work in Haiti and at the 2013 Boston Marathon.
Isenberg Ranks High as Military-Friendly Business School

Isenberg ranks 31st in the nation (19th among public business schools) in Military Times magazine's newly released survey, Best for Vets: Business Schools 2014. In the survey, which focused on business schools with graduate programs, Isenberg distinguished itself in the categories, academic support and staff support.
Elkins Boardroom Will Expand Isenberg's External Reach

Isenberg's dedication ceremony for the Arthur '57 and Barbara R. Elkins Business Intelligence Boardroom on March 10 attracted an enthusiastic gathering, including Chancellor Subbaswamy, Dean Fuller, former Dean O'Brien, and a number of Arthur Elkins' beloved former colleagues on the Isenberg faculty. Just off the Isenberg atrium, the new facility offers an ideal setting and technologies for small group discussions, problem solving, and external communications.
On March 5th, several hundred students met with recruiters from 68 companies in the 40th annual Isenberg Hospitality & Tourism Management Career Day. Run like clockwork by Isenberg HTM students, the stylish event featured a central career fair in the Campus Center Auditorium, individual information sessions hosted by recruiting firms, and, at the end of the day, a lavish reception and networking event for recruiters and students in HTM's Marriott Center for Hospitality Management.
MBA Student Team Explores Local Meat Industry

What could possibly motivate three Isenberg MBA students-all vegetarians-to devote their second-year MBA practicum to a business vivisection of the local meat industry in Western Massachusetts' Pioneer Valley? Last May, Ellen Dickenson '13 MBA, Spirit Joseph '13 MBA, and Jonathan Ward '14 MBA/MPP presented their findings and recommendations to the MBA community and the team's client, Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (CISA). CISA strengthens local agriculture through community programs that foster education, research, and sustainability.
Sport Management Speakers Tackle NFL Head Injuries

On February 20, Pulitzer Prize winning reporter and author Steve Fainaru and his journalist coauthor and brother, Mark Fainaru-Wada, spoke to the UMass Amherst community on the implications of head injuries in the National Football League. Sponsored by Isenberg's Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management and UMass Amherst's Journalism department, the presentation explored issues raised in their best-selling book, League of Denial: The NFL, Concussions and the Battle for Truth and its companion documentary, which aired last October on PBS Frontline.
Dennis Hanno '90 Ph.D. Named President of Wheaton College

Former Isenberg Associate Dean for Undergraduate Matters Dennis Hanno '90 Ph.D. (Accounting) has been named president of Wheaton College in Norton. The Isenberg alumnus will remain in his current position of provost and senior vice president of Babson College until he takes office as Wheaton's eighth president on July 15.
With the Sochi Winter Olympic Games in the rearview mirror, a 2012 statistical study by Professor Neil Longley of Isenberg's Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management is prompting observers to ask whether the teams of NHL players who participated in the Games will suffer a letdown during the rest of the NHL season.
