An opportunity to explore the impact of culture on business development and management practices in India

Description of the program:

The 3 credits for this Isenberg School of Management course will be awarded in the winter session. The course combines readings and lectures with a three -week journey to Southern India to study sustainability and culture in the world's largest democracy and the only predominant Hindu culture on earth. While in India, students will meet with Indian college students, business leaders, tour business facilities, community economic develop projects, schools  and cultural sites.

Duration of the course work:

The classroom component of the course consists of weekly seminars that start around the beginning of November 1 and continue through Dec 15 before the trip. Following the trip we will hold between 4-6 lectures between Feb 1 and March 15.

Duration of the overseas trip:

The group will depart from Boston/New York early January and return to Boston/New York on approximately 15-20 days later (dates to be confirmed later). 

Location and accommodation:

The group will fly from Boston to Chennai, and then make its way to Madurai, Tirchui and back to Chennai. There will be excursions to Mamallapuram and other smaller cities/cultural sites. We are currently in the process of making travel and lodging arrangements for the trip. 

Supervising faculty:

The group will be accompanied by Professor Easwar Iyer (Marketing), Professor Todd Crosset (Sport Management).

Course credit:

This is a 3-credit School of Management elective.


The program fee will be in the range of $3000 per student, and it will cover all course registration and credit fees, all lodging (some meals), and all ground transportation while in India. All other expenses* -air travel, travel insurance, visa, some meals, vaccinations and personal spending - are the responsibility of the student. A group fare will be available and it is expected that the participants will travel as part of the group.
