Isenberg First Year Opportunities
ISOM students studying in Ghana
There are myriad First Year Opportunities for Isenberg freshmen that range from academic to social, self-serving to philanthropic. And these opportunities begin before you even arrive on campus in September.
Each year forty or so freshmen join with upperclass Isenberg students, staff and faculty to travel to Boston to volunteer at the Greater Boston Food Bank. This two-night program offers the opportunity to get to know classmates before classes begin, begin relationships with staff and faculty, explore Boston, and work hard in community service.
Several integrated living and learning options are available to Isenberg students. These opportunities combine residence hall community living with specific required coursework. This experience allows for community development through enhanced social events, while providing studying and advising opportunities.
Isenberg Transitions seminar will provide a basic introduction to the Isenberg School, the University and surrounding community while enhancing specific life skills through group activities.
Freshmen can enroll in a year-long, 3-credit, study abroad experience. In the fall students will learn about German and French culture and business, during winter session the class travels to Germany and France, and in the spring the experience is further integrated into the student's learning.
Other short term study abroad opportunities are a trip to Ireland to explore business development and conflict resolution; to China to see first hand the historical context for business in a socialist economy, and the rapid changes occurring with the transition to a market economy; and to Italy to learn more about the country's unique business identity.
