Why UMass for Sport Management?

You Will Receive the Best Education Offered Anywhere!

-We are one of just a few programs housed in a business school.

-We have the largest faculty (11 full-time faculty members) solely dedicated to the study of spectator sports (professional sports, collegiate sports, corporate sponsors/sporting goods companies, sports facilities, and sport.

-This faculty has extensive industry connections given the more than 100 combined years of sport industry experience that we possess.

-NONE of our classes are “farmed out” to other departments across campus.

-We offer the most comprehensive and action-oriented curriculum. Where else can you take elective courses where you will market and manage a grassroots soccer tournament, conduct market research for a sport organization, sell sponsorships and ticket packages for a local sports organization, and participate in a simulated negotiation of a collective bargaining agreement?

-You will hear from a wide variety of industry professionals. Our speakers have included: Brian Burke, General Manager of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim; Pam Batalis, Vice President, Business Development, Brand Keys; Marc Williams, Brand Director for Champs Sports; John McCutcheon, Athletic Director, University of Massachusetts; Rama Mandadi, Analyst, ESPN Mobile; Bernie Mullin, President and CEO of the Atlanta Spirit.

YOU WILL HAVE ACCESS TO A WIDE VARIETY OF OPPORTUNITIES AND INDUSTRY NETWORKING!

-We have been around for 34 years – that means we have over 1,200 alumni in the sport industry! Many of these people are now in mid-level or upper-level positions

-Because of this alumni network and additional networks possessed by each of the faculty members, we have connections across the sport industry that can help further your own personal network

-We offer proximity to not one, but three major markets: Boston (90 miles), New York (160 miles), and Philadelphia (approximately 300 miles). Additionally, we conduct alumni events and take students to each of these markets nearly every year!

-We also offer the infrastructure to help you in your search for your place in the sports industry. From our computerized alumni database to our Director of Internships, our size, experience, and resources are hard to match when it comes to finding placement

YOU WILL RECEIVE INDIVIDUALIZED ATTENTION AND BEGIN TO BUILD YOUR NETWORK FOR LIFE

-While we could be much larger, we strive to keep our class sizes to 20, so that each student has an opportunity to build close relationships and networks with both their fellow students and faculty members (UMASS CLASSMATES REGULARLY HELP EACH OTHER FIND JOBS)

-Small class sizes also mean that you have the opportunity to receive more individualized attention from both faculty members and the placement coordinator
