Program Overview
The Department of Sport Management at the University of Massachusetts prepares undergraduate and graduate students for a variety of positions in the sports industry. The goal of the faculty and the department is to create a collaborative and nurturing learning environment for analyzing and resolving the challenges in the business and culture of sports. With this as a foundation, students can enter the industry with exceptional knowledge, exceptional preparation, a strong alumni network, and the confidence to assume leadership positions.
Since becoming one of the first sport management and administration programs in 1971, the UMass Department of Sport Management has evolved into one of the most widely respected programs in the country. Moreover, the program's excellent reputation and the increasing global sport marketplace has allowed the program to attract top undergraduate, master's level, and doctoral students from Asia, Europe, Australia, Canada, and around the world.
UMass Sport Management alumni have ascended to top positions in the sports industry, such as college athletic directors, conference commissioners, professional team general managers, organizational presidents, and countless upper level positions in marketing. The department's record of placing graduates into the sport marketplace speaks not only to the program's success, but also to the reputation of the faculty and alumni. The UMass Department of Sport Management attracts teachers who are experts in their field. They bring this expertise to the classroom and provide students with a practical and fulfilling education.
In 2002, the program became a department within the Isenberg School of Management (ISOM). This move into ISOM now allows graduate students the opportunity to earn a combined M.S./P.M.B.A. degree, and creates synergistic opportunities that benefit both the sport management faculty and students.
UMass Sport Management's unique and talented faculty, combined with a dedicated staff and administration, enables the program to continue its rapid growth, with an eye on the future and an allegiance to both its current students and alumni.
