Undergraduate Admissions
Admission to the Department of Sport Management is restricted. Both incoming freshmen and students transferring from other universities or majors within UMass may apply to the program. The program is highly competitive and only a limited number of applicants are accepted. Students who are admitted to the university will not necessarily be accepted into the Sport Management major.
Admission into the Major for Current UMass Students
If a student is not accepted into the major as an incoming freshman, then s/he may apply to the major after completing his or her first semester. Students who wish to begin work on the Sport Management major PRIOR to transfer may choose from predictor courses listed as "Required Out-of-Department Courses". Students are advised to decide on a major as soon as possible in order to apply to the program before they have completed 90 credits.
To be considered for acceptance into the Sport Management major, an internal transfer applicant must provide all the information below. It will then be evaluated by the Acceptance Committee and must meet the standards of the committee.

Admission into the Major for External Transfer Applicants
Transfer applicants with above-average grades in a range of disciplines (including writing/composition, humanities, social sciences, mathematics and natural sciences) may qualify for general admission to the University and the Department of Sport Management. Students transferring from other institutions may compare the course content in the Guide for Undergraduate students with their school's course descriptions. Only students with LESS than 90 credits will be considered for entry into the major.
For application deadlines, fees, and procedures, see the guidelines for transfer students at the UMass undergraduate admissions website.
Transfer students, who are not accepted into the Sport Management major at the time of transfer to UMass, may apply for transfer into the major at a later date, provided that they meet the requirements described above in "Admission into the Major for Current UMass Students."
Admission into the Major for Incoming Freshmen
A limited number of students are admitted to the Sport Management major as incoming freshmen. Applying for admission to the Sport Management Department is a competitive process and students who are admitted to the university may not necessarily be accepted into the Sport Management major. Students who are accepted into the major as incoming freshmen usually exceed a combined SAT score of 1100 and graduate in the top third of their high school classes. A proven record of community service may also increase a candidate's likelihood of acceptance into the major.
