Lisa Pike Masteralexis

Biography
Lisa Pike Masteralexis is Department Head and Associate Professor in the Department of Sport Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She is also an Adjunct Faculty member in the University's Labor Relations Program. She holds a J.D. from Suffolk University School of Law and a B.S. in Sport Management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She teaches courses in Sport Agencies, Sport Law and in Labor Relations in Professional Sport. Her primary research interests are in legal issues and labor relations in the sport industry.
Professor Masteralexis is the lead editor of Principles and Practice of Sport Management, now in its thirdedition. She contributed chapters to that textbook and has written book chapters in Law for Recreation and Sport Managers, Management for Athletic/Sport Administration, and Sport in the Global Village. Her scholarly work also includes contributions to the Journal of the Legal Aspects of Sport, Journal of Sport Management, Journal of Sport and Social Issues, European Journal for Sport Management, Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal and Athletic Business magazines. Professor Masteralexis has made over 30 presentations in the United States and abroad before the American Bar Association, the Sport and Recreation Law Association, the North American Society for Sport Management, the European Association for Sport Management, and numerous law schools. In 2000, Professor Masteralexis co-authored an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of disabled professional golfer Casey Martin.
Professor Masteralexis has twice received the College Outstanding Teacher Award from the University of Massachusetts and completed a year as an Lilly Foundation Teaching Fellow. She is an Advisory Board member of the Women's Sports Foundation and the National Sports Law Institute. She is a member of the Massachusetts and U.S. Supreme Court Bars. Professor Masteralexis is also certified player agent with the Major League Baseball Players Association and consults for DiaMMond Management Group, a professional athlete management firm.
