Todd Crosset

Associate Professor

Biography

Todd Crosset, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sport Management in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He did is doctorate work in Sociology at Brandeis University.

Todd's academic interests in sport management include, gender, racism, and sexual assault in sport. His book, Outsiders in the Clubhouse, about life on the LPGA golf tour, won the North American Society for Sport Sociology book of the year award in 1995.

Crosset may be best known for his work on the issue of athlete sexual assault on college campuses - which landed him in People Magazine. Crosset was one of the first scholars to identify and name coach athlete abuse as a problem. In this area of study his focus is on prevention. Currently Crosset is consulting on legal exploring the intersection between athlete sexual assault and Title IX.

Crosset's teaching interests include Sociology of Sport, History of Sport, and Community Relations in the Sport Industry. Within the department he has developed a course on sport and community relations. This is the only undergraduate course of its kind. The course is a partnership between the Boston Celtics and community groups in Springfield community of color. Students get hands on experience working in non-profit community service organizations, fundraising, event management and community building. The culmination of the course is a half-time presentation at Center court at the Fleet Center.

Prior to arriving at UMass, he held positions as a Head Coach of Swimming at Northeastern University and Assistant Athletic Director at Dartmouth College. While an undergraduate at University of Texas Austin, Todd was an All-America Swimmer and a member of a National Championship Team.
