How do I drop or withdraw from a class?
Drop - You may drop a course up until the last day of the Add/Drop period. You will receive a refund (the refund will not include the course registration fee).
Withdraw - You may withdraw from a class up until the Withdraw date. A class dropped during this period will be recorded on your transcript as a 'W' and no refund will be given.

Refunds are given for classes dropped during the add/drop/refund period if proper procedures are followed. For more information, see the Refund Schedule and Calendar. The registration fee is non-refundable.
To drop a class before the Add/Drop deadline:

When can I enroll in classes?
Can degree completion students take on-site classes?
Yes. Online degree completion students can take on-site classes on a space available basis. Please note that there is a different tuition rate and additional fees.
What are the criteria to graduate with honors?
All graduating seniors are eligible for Latin honors designations on diplomas and transcripts if his/her complete academic record shows at least 54 calculable credits at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and meets one or more of the following criteria:
The Registrar will annually post on their website the GPA needed to secure a place in the top 5%, 10%, and 25% in each school or college for the current year, based on the average of the previous three years’ graduating classes.
Will my military credits transfer?
Military Credits: UMass Amherst uses the American Council on Education (ACE) guidelines and applies the same standards to credits for military education as those applied to coursework from accredited colleges and universities. The JST military transcript is available in electronic format only and may be requested via the Joint Services Transcript (JST) website.
Can students in the Hospitality and Tourism Management BS program at UMass Amherst earn one of the certificates?
These certificates are not designed or recommended for students earning their degree in Hospitality and Tourism. You may take the courses as a way of learning more about these areas and specializing, however your transcript will state that the degree supersedes the certificate. If you do decide to apply for the certificate you may with these restrictions/stipulations/conditions/terms:
Can I participate in graduation ceremonies on campus?
All eligible students can participate in graduation ceremonies. Many of our online students have made only one trip to campus -- to graduate!
You are eligible if your last semester is Fall September 2013, Wintersession 2014, Spring 2014 or Summer 2014.

Can a non Hospitality and Tourism UMass Amherst student earn one of the certificates?
How many hours should I expect to spend on an online course?
You should expect to put in at least ten hours of course work per week for a three-credit course in the fall or spring semesters. Courses are also offered over ten, eight, five and three-week sessions. The shorter the session, the more rigorous the time commitment.
How many credits are required for the Isenberg Online Degree Completion Program, and how many can I transfer?
You need a total of 120 credits to earn your degree. You may transfer a maximum of 75 credits, and you must earn at least 45 of your total credits through classes at UMass Amherst.

Your personal statement should be 2-3 pages long, discussing how your experiences led to your decision to apply for a UMass Amherst degree program. Describe your educational goals, including the focus of your academic interests, as well as how you think UMass Amherst can help you meet these goals.
How do I search for & enroll in classes?
All students can use the Courses: Browse & Enroll tool to find and sign up for Isenberg classes.
If you are not a Current Student (not yet accepted to an Isenberg program) and want to sign up for a non-Isenberg class, you can search and enroll in classes at CPE. You are not eligible to register through Spire.

How do I get access to SPIRE, UMass Email and online library resources?
Can I get a transcript review to see if I am a good fit and which classes might transfer?
Yes! Our Advising Center offers a preliminary review of your application before you apply. Our advisors will evaluate your unofficial transcripts to help you decide if Isenberg is the right fit for you. Advisors will also tell you which courses will most likely transfer, and what requirements you still need to fulfill. The preliminary transcript review does not guarantee admission, but is a good indication of your standing.
To request a preliminary review, email your unofficial transcript(s) and a very brief description of your work experience, including military experience.
How do I enroll in a summer or winter class?
To enroll in a summer or winter class, you must request a CPE Enrollment Appointment in Spire.

What should I expect after I’ve enrolled in my first course prior to being formally accepted to the program?
After your enrollment request has been processed and you’ve been added to the course, you will receive an email to your Non-UMass email address with instructions to activate your OIT Accounts for UMass Email and SPIRE (online student information system) . Once this email is sent to you, all future university correspondences will be sent to your UMass email address. Check this email regularly for updates and notices from UMass.
Am I eligible for tuition remission?
Full-time state employees, their spouses and unmarried dependent children (through age 25) who meet eligibility and admission requirements will receive 50% tuition remission for online courses.
How will I receive my tuition bill?
You will be billed directly by the University Bursar's Office. Billing information will be sent to your UMass email (UMass Email) account. Paper bills will not be generated. The bill can be viewed from a link within SPIRE and paid directly online, or it can be downloaded and mailed with a check. If your employer is paying for your tuition, you may also use Agency or Corporate Billing.
What course materials, such as textbooks, are required for my course?
You can find out what course materials will be required by looking at your course in SPIRE, either log in or select Search classes/Catalog to the right of the Spire log in information, search for your class by term, subject and mode of instruction and select the section, scoll down to Textbook/Other materials.
Can I preview my classes before they begin?
Yes! One week prior to the official start date of each course, you can preview the course to familiarize yourself with the course syllabus, get details about course materials, and introduce yourself to the professor and fellow students. Go to

Is the tuition the same for out-of-state students?
Yes, tuition is the same regardless of state or even country.
