Can I get courses waived or transfer courses from other colleges or institutions?
All of the certificate courses must be taken online through Continuing and Professional Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, so waivers and transfers are not accepted.
Can my undergraduate certificate courses be used toward an online Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management?
Yes. The undergraduate certificate courses you take can be applied toward a bachelor's degree in HTM, if you decide to enroll in the Isenberg's online degree completion program. The certificate programs are a good way to determine if you want to continue your studies to get an online bachelor's degree.
I've completed my courses to earn a certificate. Is there a form to fill out?
Yes. Once you've completed the course requirements for your Meeting & Event Management or Casino Management certificate program, submit a Certificate Completion Form.
Students completing a certificate in Sport Management should contact their advisor.
Can students in the Hospitality and Tourism Management BS program at UMass Amherst earn one of the certificates?
These certificates are not designed or recommended for students earning their degree in Hospitality and Tourism. You may take the courses as a way of learning more about these areas and specializing, however your transcript will state that the degree supersedes the certificate. If you do decide to apply for the certificate you may with these restrictions/stipulations/conditions/terms:

What should I expect after I’ve enrolled in my first course prior to being formally accepted to the program?
After your enrollment request has been processed and you’ve been added to the course, you will receive an email to your Non-UMass email address with instructions to activate your OIT Accounts for UMass Email and SPIRE (online student information system) . Once this email is sent to you, all future university correspondences will be sent to your UMass email address. Check this email regularly for updates and notices from UMass.
Am I eligible for tuition remission?
Full-time state employees, their spouses and unmarried dependent children (through age 25) who meet eligibility and admission requirements will receive 50% tuition remission for online courses.
What course materials, such as textbooks, are required for my course?
You can find out what course materials will be required by looking at your course in SPIRE, either log in or select Search classes/Catalog to the right of the Spire log in information, search for your class by term, subject and mode of instruction and select the section, scoll down to Textbook/Other materials.
Can I preview my classes before they begin?
Yes! One week prior to the official start date of each course, you can preview the course to familiarize yourself with the course syllabus, get details about course materials, and introduce yourself to the professor and fellow students. Go to
UMass Online to login to your class.
Is the tuition the same for out-of-state students?
Yes, tuition is the same regardless of state or even country.
