Prof. Glenn Wong to be Inducted into New England Basketball Hall of Fame

Glenn M. Wong, professor of sport management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame during ceremonies at the Mohegan Sun resort in Uncasville, Conn., on Friday, Oct. 9.
Wong is being honored in the Scholar-Athlete category for distinguished individuals who had outstanding careers as players or coaches, who excelled in the classroom and have made strong contributions to society.
He has been a member of the UMass Amherst faculty since 1979, served as head of the department of sport management from 1986-97, was interim athletic director from 1992-93 and was acting dean of the School of Physical Education. Wong is currently the faculty representative for UMass Amherst to the National Collegiate Athletic Association, a role he has served since 1993.
In 2007, Wong was named one of the 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America by the Institute for International Sport at the University of Rhode Island. In 2006 he received the Academic Achievement Award in sport management from the International Conference on Sport and Entertainment Businesses. He is the recipient of a Distinguished Faculty Award from the UMass Amherst Alumni Association in 1999.
Wong is also the author of several books, including his most recent, "The Comprehensive Guide to Careers in Sports," published in 2009.
Wong is a graduate of Brandeis University where he was team captain. He received a distinguished alumnus award from Brandeis. He earned his law degree from Boston College Law School.
