Welcome to the Advising Corner
This Advising section has been created to help you in planning your courses in the UMass Amherst Part-Time MBA Program.
The suggested curriculum guide is based on several factors:
- Prior Undergraduate Coursework - One factor that often directs students is whether they have an undergraduate degree in business or not. Students with an undergraduate degree in business have met our program pre-requisites. Students without a business degree, will be required to satisfy our Program Prerequisites or the equivalent.
A Part-Time MBA student has two suggested paths to choose from based upon his/her undergraduate degree:
1. Business Undergraduate
2. Non-Business Undergraduate
- Accelerated or Non-accelerated - Students can proceed quickly (accelerated) through the program or in a more deliberate pace (non-accelerated).
- Fall, Spring, or Summer Start -Depending upon when you begin, our guides assist you with course suggestions. Fall and Spring are 14-week semesters and Summer is a compressed 8 week semester.
Quantitative and Qualitative Courses (View handout in PDF format) - In the Part-Time MBA Program, there are quantitative and qualitative core courses. Generally, quantitative course are more individual in nature, while qualitative courses require more team projects, threaded discussions, case work, etc. For students taking an accelerated approach to the program, we recommend selecting a qualitative and quantitative course to balance the workload.
Curriculum Guide
Students may take take up to two courses (6 credits) before formally applying to the program. Upon matriculation (formal acceptance in the program), those non-degree credits taken within three years of acceptance with a grade of B or better will be transferred to your graduate transcript.
