Isenberg School Researchers Help Food Bank with Supply Chain Management

During a nine-month project, operations management professor Senay Solak and MBA candidate Justin Fisher assessed the efficiency and equity of food distribution to 191 agencies by the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. Using supply chain modeling techniques, the researchers presented the Food Bank with pragmatic distribution alternatives.

Isenberg Students Excel in Accounting Case Competition

A team of five Isenberg School accounting students has placed first among seven Isenberg teams in PricewaterhouseCoopers's annual XACT Case Competition. For its winning effort, the team, coached by accounting professor Jim Smith, received $1,000 and consideration for the competition's national finals.

In an October 21 visit to the Isenberg School, Governor Deval Patrick, found considerable common ground with his student hosts-members of the Jewish Leadership in Business, Muslim Student Association, and Association of Diversity in Sports. The students asked the governor for his support for their proposed program, the Cultural Education Initiative.

In September, the Isenberg School welcomed its newest Jack Welch Scholars, freshmen Kathleen (Katie) Murphy '13 and Brandon Auger '13. Created by the GE Fund to honor former GE chairman and UMass Amherst alumnus John F. Welch '57, the highly competitive scholarships provide full financial support for their recipients throughout their undergraduate years.

Marketing Ph.D. Students Excel as Isenberg Scholars

Created by Eugene Isenberg '50 fourteen years ago, the annual Isenberg Awards offer financial support to UMass Amherst graduate students who integrate business, science, and technology into their studies and research. Over the years, most awardees from the Isenberg School have focused on entrepreneurship or operations and technology management. Three recent recipients, however--Lauren Labrecque, Jason Gabisch, and Ereni Markos--are Ph.D. candidates in marketing.
