Exchange Programs

HTM students are encouraged to experience a semester away from UMass. Exchange programs offer students a low-cost opportunity to explore other cultures while continuing their educational program. Given the international nature of our field, such opportunities are effective in creating a diverse set of personal experiences so desired by hospitality and tourism firms.

There are no special fees for either domestic or international exchanges. Students pay their usual tuition and fees to UMass. Students may choose on-campus housing or find housing off-campus at most of the international locations. The only additional expense is that of transportation to the other institution, plus any additional spending money.

Exchanges are cost effective because no tuition and fee money leaves campus. The money an HTM student pays to UMass stays here for use by an incoming exchange student. Likewise, the money the incoming exchange student pays at his or her host institution is left for use by the HTM student. Therefore, issues of differences in tuition, out-of-state status, etc. are avoided.

Get excited! Plan ahead. HTM offers four international exchange programs in which students can take courses that count toward their degree. However, there is a limit on how many students are accepted for an exchange and it is often competitive. Explore the links on this page for more details.
