The University of Massachusetts Amherst, Isenberg School of Management, Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) offers two online certificate programs for non-matriculated, distance learners.

What the HTM Online Certificate Program is—
This credit-based, online certificate program equips distance learners with knowledge and skills to help them succeed in the Hospitality and Tourism Management industry.

Each requires the completion of five online courses.

What the HTM Online Certificate Program can do--
Creates an opportunity for working individuals to supplement industry experience they may already have.

Gives career changers a base to build on to begin their new, service oriented profession.

Online Certificate in Casino Management

Designed to provide students with an opportunity to study the casino industry.

Legal and regulatory aspects of gaming are studied along with the relationship between the casino industry and tourism environment.

Online Certificate in Meeting & Event Management

Prepares students for a career in the meeting and event industry.

Instructs students in all aspects of event and meeting management.

Topics cover appropriate meeting sites, pre-event publicity and marketing, audio-visual aids, budgeting, negotiation, and contracts.

Certificate Completion Information

Please review the information below if you have completed all required certificate courses.


  • Coursework must be completed with a grade of C or better

  • Courses must be taken online at the University of Massachusetts Amherst through Continuing and Professional Education

  • A certificate audit will need to be completed by the department prior to your certificate being awarded.


  • To contact the department for a certificate audit, please fill out the Certificate Completion Form

    Please note:

    Completion of a certificate program does not automatically enroll a student into the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management's Bachelor of Science Degree program--however credits may be applied depending on degree requirements.

    If you enrolled in a certificate program before December 1, 2006, please view the previous requirements for certificate completion.
