The Master of Science Degree Overview
The Master's program will qualify students for leadership positions in the hospitality industry, government, education, and consulting. The HTM Department offers thesis and non-thesis tracks, both leading to the Master of Science degree.
The thesis track is designed with flexible requirements to allow students to develop individualized courses of study with their major professor and committee. It includes courses in HTM and other departments in the Isenberg School of Management. A research-based thesis is required (6 credits).
The non-thesis track also includes courses in HTM and other departments in the Isenberg School of Management. In place of the 6-credit thesis, students complete an additional course in HTM or Management (3 credits) and conduct a major hospitality research study (3 credits).
While the number of applicants accepted into the program varies each year, we typically maintain an enrollment of 35 to 40 students. Fifteen instructors, all with doctoral degrees, make up the graduate faculty.
The program of study includes courses in other disciplines that expand fundamental concepts in the various elements comprising the hospitality and tourism industries. Departmental courses undertake to extend, refine, and adapt the basic concepts to unique areas of the hospitality field. Upper-level courses in the program encourage the use of all available resources and develop analytical and decision-making skills central to the hospitality industry.
