The MS/MBA Dual Degree Option
The hospitality and tourism field represents the largest industry worldwide and the second largest in the U.S. As such, the management of businesses and organizations within it (hotels, food service operations, resorts and casinos, tourism boards, and even assisted living enterprises, to mention a few) encompasses complex strategic, financial decision-making. The knowledge required to professionally manage and operate in this industry at any level today is found within the discipline of courses taught both in business and hospitality and tourism management related fields. Hence, the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management and the MBA Program have coordinated efforts to offer the HTM-MS/MBA dual degree.
The Dual Degree Option
The dual degree option allows our most qualified applicants the opportunity to earn both a Master of Science degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management and a Master of Business Administration in approximately two years (depending on background and qualifications and course sequencing). It is a rigorous, fast-paced, and challenging curriculum providing students with a set of strong, analytical business tools that prepares them for key managerial positions in the hospitality and tourism industry.
Program Format
Students enter the dual degree program in the fall semester only and remain with their cohort group throughout the curriculum. The first year of the program, students enroll in predominantly MBA courses and in the second year, primarily HTM courses and electives. Courses may also be taken during the 3- week Winter Session during January and occasionally during the summer.
