HT-MGT 591 - Seminars in Hospitality Management and Administration
Required only of students with no academic background in HTM in addition to 36-credit course requirements. An examination of the areas of critical importance to the hospitality industry. The Graduate Program Director will coordinate the course and assign final grades after receiving input from the faculty involved. 3 credits. Offered every fall.
HT-MGT 644 - Strategic Management in the Hospitality Industry
An integrative course designed to expose graduate students to top management business situations. Students also read, discuss, and apply a body of theory and techniques from the field of strategic management. Emphasis on the development of practical problem-solving skills through case analysis and computer simulations. 3 credits. Restricted to second-year students. Offered every fall.
HT-MGT 666 - Human Resources Management
Examination of human resource techniques and industrial relations practices in hotels and restaurants. A study of initiating and accommodating change, both individual and organizational, within the hotel and restaurant. 3 credits. Should be taken during the student's first fall semester. Offered every fall.
HT-MGT 685 - Hospitality Marketing Management
The application of marketing concepts to the service industry to establish marketing as a central orientation and philosophy of the strategic planning of a hospitality firm. 3 credits. Should be taken during the student's first spring semester. Offered every spring.
HT-MGT 693 - Seminar in Advanced Financial Analysis
Examination of theoretical and empirical issues related to financial management in hotels and restaurants. Emphasis is on issues such as value maximization, financial planning, budgeting, financial analysis, current research trends in hospitality finance, and financial strategies related to asset, working capital, and debt and equity management in hotels and restaurants. 3 credits. Offered every fall.
HT-MGT 694 Seminar in Research Methods and Applications
Concepts of research design and methods, data collection and processing, and statistical interpretation of research. 3 credits. Should be taken during the student's firstst spring semester. Offered every spring.

Exposes students to the variety of club management enterprises that provide and manage club and private member services and resources, and focuses attention upon detailed and advanced methods and issues regarding management of clubs. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 600 - Hospitality and Tourism Information Systems
Design and implementation of various management information systems within hospitality industry operations, and their implications for management organization, planning, and control. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 606 - Hospitality Planning and Decision Models
The application of planning and decision models to management problems of the hospitality industry. Emphasis is placed on analytical and quantitative decision models. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 607 - Hospitality Education
Principles and concepts of research in education curriculum development and evaluation; testing and measurement. Emphasis on the role of the professor in higher education. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 633 - Tourism Planning and Development
The analysis of tourism markets and travel trends; economic, social, and cultural implications; socioeconomic models and measurements of the consequences of tourism on a region. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 677 - Market & Economic Feasibility Studies in Hospitality
The identification and description of factors affecting a proposed new hotel or restaurant, and the development of pro forma statements projecting costs and profits for such ventures. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 681 - Pricing Strategy in the Hospitality Industry
The concepts of microeconomics in the study of markets and pricing as they apply in the hospitality industry. Focus is on market determination, price determination, and price strategy development for hotels and restaurants. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 691 - Marketing Decision Analysis in Hospitality
Marketing theory and empirical generalizations form the bases for developing computer models to improve decision analysis. Students interact with local business owners and managers and develop solutions to marketing problems through consulting assignments. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 692 - Seminar in Hospitality Investing and Financial Management
Internal control, operating ratios, financial ratios, cost-volume profit analysis, financing the hospitality industry, hotel feasibility, joint venture and equity agreements, valuation models, hotel leases, management contracts, franchising, real estate investment trusts, debt financing, restructuring debt, franchise agreements. Prerequisite: HT-MGT 693 or consent of instructor. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 693 - Seminar in Events Management
The application of planning course concepts focusing on the planning and delivery of special events, the level of goals and objectives, techniques in marketing, logistical considerations, and the evaluation of program effectiveness in qualitative and quantitative terms. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 695 - Seminar in Food Service in the Hospitality Industry
The scope of the commercial and institutional food service industry segments, current shifts and trends, future implications. Analysis of operations, controls, and financial management using selected case studies. 3 credits.
HT-MGT 696 - Independent Study
Independent study and research on selected problems in hotel, restaurants, and tourism not covered by other courses. The Independent Study can be similar to the thesis in that a student conducts a research project. Differences are primarily in the nature or depth of study, format, course requirements, and final examination. Topic selection should be in an area of interest to the student as it relates to the hospitality and tourism industry. The student can expect to spend as long as 150 hours on the project. A member of the HTM graduate faculty must direct and supervise the study. 1-3 credits.
HT-MGT 697 - Hospitality Industry Project
Working with a committee of three faculty advisors, the student selects a problem or issue faced by hospitality firms, then applies business concepts to reach solutions. 3 credits. Required for non-thesis track only. Offered every semester.
HT-MGT 699 - Master's Thesis
6 credits. Offered every semester.
Additional specialized graduate seminars are offered periodically on selected topics when faculty, especially visiting faculty, are available. Past examples of such courses include Tourism Marketing, Tourism Development, and Gaming and Casino Management. Specialized graduate seminars may also be offered when student demand exists and faculty are available.
