Kim Sherman is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Organization Studies with a concentration in Social Psychology & Diversity.  Before returning to UMass to pursue her doctorate Kim worked in industry for over 15 years.  Most of these 15 years were split between  a small human resource consulting firm in NYC and multiple locations for International Business Machines (IBM).   The majority of her work experience since graduating from UMass as an undergraduate has been in the field of human resources.  As an HR professional Kim had the opportunity to explore many different areas - diversity, performance management, hiring & selection, retention, management development, etc.  These experiences have all contributed to her current interests in organization studies.  At present, Kim is working on a dissertation that will explore the antecedents and consequences of subtle racism within the workplace.  In addition to her focus on race and gender issues she is also interested in the areas of global human resources, leader-member exchanges within organizations, social networking, and social entrepreneurship.  Kim has had conference papers accepted at the Academy of Management (2008) and the Eastern Academy of Management (2008), and a paper published in the International Journal of Leadership Studies (2007).  In addition, she was awarded a Community Service Learning Faculty Fellowship for 2008-2009 for work related to social entrepreneurship and community development.
