Professor Nagurney Honored as INFORMS Fellow

Anna Nagurney, John F. Smith Memorial Professor of Operations Management at Isenberg, has been named an INFORMS Fellow by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the leading professional association for advanced analytics professionals. The prestigious award recognizes outstanding lifetime achievement in operations research and the management sciences. INFORMS Fellows have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments and made significant and sustained contributions to the advancement of operations research and management science.

As one of 12 honorees this year, Professor Nagurney is the first UMass recipient of the award, which has been given annually for 11 years. She and her fellow awardees will be honored at a ceremony on Oct. 7 at the 2013 INFORMS annual meeting in Minneapolis.


"Being elected an INFORMS Fellow is truly humbling for me and an honor for the Isenberg School and its programs," observes Nagurney. "It is terrific to see contributions to operations research and the management sciences with its so many exciting applications, recognized in this significant, meaningful way. I thank my wonderful students over the years as well as collaborators and colleagues for the vibrant and supportive research, the educational and professional community that we have built."


Professor Nagurney's research focuses on the applied and theoretical aspects of network systems, particularly in the areas of transportation and logistics, critical infrastructure, economics, and finance. She is the Founding Director of the Virtual Center for Supernetworks at Isenberg and is the recipient of numerous grants and honors.  She is also is the long-time faculty advisor of the nationally honored  UMass INFORMS student chapter, comprising undergraduate and graduate students from various schools and departments on campus, including Isenberg and the College of Engineering. The chapter has received national recognition for its cutting-edge, interdisciplinary speaker series that has showcased talks by prominent leaders from MIT, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, McGill, IBM, ISO New England, and other leading organizations.
