Senior Alumni Share Professional Insights with Isenberg Freshmen
September 25, 2013
Two Isenberg alumni with extensive senior executive experience captivated hundreds of students with career and business insights in the Dean's professional development seminar for first-year Isenberg students. David Fubini '76 (Marketing), Director with McKinsey & Company, and David O'Leary '81 MBA, former Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer with State Street Corporation, gave students their take on networking, interviewing, teamwork, mentorships, and "hard" versus "soft" business skills.
"You're only as good as the group around
you," emphasized Fubini in his advocacy of teamwork. "Being
prepared"--understanding a company's business objectives and culture--"is a key
to success in job interviews," noted O'Leary. "I take for granted that you have
all the basic 'hard' [business] skills," he continued. "I'm more interested in
personality and your fit with the organization." "Start networking now," urged
Fubini. "Start with the group in this
room. It's likely that some of you will get jobs from one another. "Down the
road, you'll not only be a source of jobs but of capital as well."
