Isenberg HTM Students and their Chapter Shine at National Hospitality Conference

March 4, 2013

Isenberg's student chapter of the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) earned awards for having the Best Membership Drive, the Most Members at the NSMH's Regional Northeast Conference, and the Greatest Number of Members in a Northeast Chapter. Recent HTM graduate Noortje Groosman received the Highest Grade Point Average Award, and chapter president Priscilla Lee was NSMH's Chapter President of the Year. Isenberg sophomores Samantha Roccapriore and Hiu-Kwan Kung were candidates for NSMH's 2013-2014 National Board.

At the three-day conference, 29 Isenberg students participated in professional growth & development workshops, an awards banquet, and a variety of networking events, including a day-long career fair, which yielded interviews for internships and entry-level jobs. Representatives from the NSMH's industry partners included the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Hilton Worldwide, Marriott International, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, and many other major employers.

The Isenberg students and their chapter's advisor, Derek Bratton, attended the conference with support from their chapter, the HTM department, Sodexo, and the UMass Amherst Student Government Association.
